Karen Chase does a phenomenal job portraying Lizzie Lovejoy in Jewvangelist. Learn more about Karen, below!
1. Tell us about yourself. Where are you from and what is your background?
I was born in Louisville, Kentucky, but I’ve been in Los Angeles for so long, I feel like a native, especially because my two beautiful daughters were born here.
Growing up, I was always dancing, performing, modeling, or cheerleading. The only art form I really wanted that wasn’t part of my repertoire was acting. That’s what brought me to Los Angeles where - surprise! - my first job was dancing as a LA Laker Girl. Start by doing what you know I guess.
2. Tell us about your acting career so far.
My first professional job was getting cast as Anytime Annie in the Broadway Musical 42nd Street, which ran for one year at the Shubert Theatre in Los Angeles. Next I got the lead in a Roger Corman film, Vendetta. I also booked some guest spots on TV shows, commercials, and music videos. Then I took an 18 year hiatus for raising my family and running my business, Dance for Kids. I just returned to acting two years ago and have been booking pretty steadily thanks to independent films, short films and the wonderful web series genre. That’s where the very special Jewvangelist series is playing and the wonderful cast and crew came into my life!
3. What is your dream job/role/project?
As much as I love doing films, I really would love to be a regular ensemble cast member on a tv sitcom playing a cute, fit, funny Mom/ Grandma who is a little off her rocker. Hmmmm…literally as well as figuratively.
4. Who inspires you most in your field?
Meryl… Need I say more?
1. Who do you play in Jewvangelist? Tell us about him or her.
I play Lizzie Lovejoy, wife of Pastor Lovejoy and mother to Perry. I love Lizzie! She has a joie de vivre and a heart of gold, but she definitely doesn’t share my beliefs.
2. Which aspect of your character’s personality is closest to your own? Which is the furthest?
The joy! Yes the joy! And personally, I follow no religious doctrine, just one of love and acceptance for all!
3. What drew you to Jewvangelist?
Well, first of all the writing! Top notch and freakin’ funny! Secondly, after meeting Becky Kramer, I knew I wanted to be a part of her loving project that she had so much passion for.
4. Tell us a story about something that happened on set.
Getting to know the cast and crew and realizing we were onto something very special. I’m not kidding when I say this is a very inspired group of people. And I guess wheeling Amy’s wheelchair (with her broken foot sticking out) into the ladies room. That was quite fun! Love you Amy!
5. What makes Jewvangelist a must-see?
Put simply - it’s really clever and funny!! I guarantee you will be able to relate to at least one character, no matter who you are or what you believe. And what’s better than laughing at ourselves?
